Prismatic Speech and Language Therapy

About Me

Tiana Bateman M.S., CCC-SLP

Hello! My name is Tiana Bateman, M.S., CCC-SLP. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and I have been working with clients on their speech and language needs for four years. I love what I do! Most recently I have been working in an elementary school helping children with their speech and language skills that will help them in the classroom. While I continue to work in a school part time, I realized I wanted to try a more family-focused, play based approach. I am branching out and seeing private clients in their homes where they are most comfortable.

I try to implement a neurodiversity affirming, play based approach to speech therapy! I have ADHD myself so I understand the need to be adaptable and follow the child's lead to help with connection and engagement during speech therapy sessions.

I am currently taking courses to specialize in using sensory strategies to help children stay regulated during speech therapy. Regulation helps facilitate connection and communication!

When not helping with speech and language, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. I also enjoy hiking, paddle boarding, baking, learning aerial silks, and more!

Why "Prismatic"?

Why did I name my business "Prismatic Speech and Language Therapy"?

Growing up in Idaho my family would often visit Yellowstone National Park. My favorite part of these visits was an enchanting pool of colors that seemed to stretch on forever! The Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest hot spring in the world! Mineral-rich water is surrounded by microbial mats which form the captivating prismatic colors.

"Prismatic" often refers to the colors that appear as light refracts through a prism. White light enters the prism and is refracted (or bent), separating it into multiple wavelengths of light, each with its own color.

To me, refraction represents seeing things from multiple points of view despite having our own perspective. Each child sees and experiences the world differently. This could be because of differences in neurotypes, communication, life experiences, sensory differences, etc. The mission of Prismatic Speech and Language Therapy is to honor their differences while improving their ability to connect with people and navigate the world through communication.
